Christchurch based contemporary oil painter

From The Beginning

As a contemporary oil painter based in Christchurch, Aotearoa (New Zealand), my journey as an artist has been one of discovery and perseverance. I came to painting relatively late in life, at the age of 27, while working as a primary school teacher. In the evenings, I would retreat to my small apartment's kitchen to experiment with colourful landscapes.

Despite starting from humble beginnings, my passion and dedication for the art form quickly became evident. My works began to sell throughout New Zealand and overseas, and I found myself increasingly drawn to the transformative power of painting.

With each brushstroke, I discovered a newfound sense of creative freedom and self-expression, and I decided to devote more time and space to painting. So, when I moved house, I decided to slowly build myself a little painting studio in my garage, and it was there that my creative life truly exploded.

In this space of my own, I was able to fully immerse myself in the process of painting, exploring new techniques and pushing the boundaries of my own creativity. Today, my work continues to evolve and grow, driven by a desire to capture the beauty and complexity of the world around us.

The Inspiration

Through my work, I aim to explore themes of beauty, freedom, and power, and to inspire others to embrace their own unique voice and perspective.

As an artist, I believe that life is an endless adventure, full of wonder and inspiration waiting to be discovered. I strive to tap into that spirit of curiosity and exploration, and to create art that invites others to join me on a journey of discovery.

For me, creating art is not just about producing a beautiful image or capturing a likeness; it is a deeply personal and transformative experience. Through each stroke of the brush, I seek to connect with my own inner voice and to express my own truth and vision of the world.

I believe that art has the power to transform not only the artist, but also the viewer, and to inspire a deeper appreciation and understanding of the world around us.
